Lasseter and his team's pitch-perfect way with genre cliches revs up the espionage subplot.. It's an example of what a sequel should, or at least can, be.. "Cars 2" teaches gentle kid-friendly lessons about the importance of friendship and being yourself and introduces some great new characters in its parallel spy drama and auto racing plots.. ...by Pixar's outrageous standards of Oscar shoo-in virtuosity, this sequel is a disappointment at best.. Not that Cars 2 is an actively bad animated film...
